Pfeilsticker charged with DWI

.
Linda Pfeilsticker, a candidate for Minnesota House Seat 28B in 2008, was cited earlier this month for drunken driving near her Wabasha home.

Pfeilsticker, 36, was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor DWI. The Daily News learned of the charge from an e-mail Pfeilsticker sent Wednesday night.
“I had a lapse in judgment, and it was a bad one,” Pfeilsticker said in an interview. “I’ll take responsibility.”

Pfeilsticker said she was cited by the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Department in the early morning on Dec. 9. She said it was her first DWI.

A police report was not immediately available Thursday afternoon.

In August, Pfeilsticker, a Democrat, narrowly lost to Rep. Steve Drazkowski, R-Wabasha, in a special election for the 28B seat vacated by Steve Sviggum.

She announced in November that she will seek the seat again in 2008.

On Thursday, Pfeilsticker said those plans haven’t changed.

“Everybody makes a mistake at some point in time,” Pfeilsticker said. “It comes down to how you’re going to

handle that mistake — which is why I’ve been forthcoming.”

Pfeilsticker, who teaches social studies at Winona Senior High School, said administrators there have been “supportive” since she told them of the citation.

“I’ve told the kids about it as well,” Pfeilsticker said. “They know I’m an honest person.”

" Wasn't Bush's DWI back in 1975, when he was younger than Linda is now? Sounds like someone is reaching a bit....By the By...Wasn't there a DWI swept under the rug on the Cape Cod Coast back in '68? Stetch..and Reach... "

" Like most democrats, and even some republicans, Pfeilsticker is human. It's unfair to undercut her credibility based on this incident. Compared to having an ex-cocaine user as our country's leader for the past 7 years, this is a non-issue. "

" If Linda were a Republican, this would have been swept under the rug, just like Bush's DUI "

" Trymaleagain...I can't comment on something I have no knowledge of. So please don't accuse me of something that I can't possibly react to. You seem vindictive. I simply pointed out an admirable response to a poor choice. I stand by that statement. "

" My Dad always says, "What goes around comes around". During the Special election I received several campaign pieces from Linda Pfeilsticker that were blatant personal attacks on Rep. Drazkowski's family life. So cjs1219 I hope you don't have a double standard when it comes to Linda. There are consequences for personal behaviors in life. If Linda thinks an apology for her drunkeness should be her only consequence, politics is the wrong choice for her! "

" Lax? You smug little liberal, how ya been? Going to check out your response on the op page. Haven't been there yet. Tell me, since you vote democrat and all, was the lobotomy painful? "

" The arresting officer probably had her try to spell her own last name as part of the roadside sobriety test. "

" (continued from previous) If you believe otherwise, talk to the students and see what their opinion is. Get to know Linda Pfeilsticker and then pass judgment. Or, better yet, post your name along with your attacks and let us look into your personal history. Thankfully there are people who take on public service roles. They open their lives to this scrutiny by people who have nothing better to do than attack them anonymously. Thank you. "

" (continued from previous post) As the saying goes, it is not how we fall down, but how we get up that matters. Too many people do not accept personal responsibility for their actions in today's society. It's a rampant plague. It's always the other person's fault. In my opinion, a great lesson has been taught to the students of Winona Senior High. That lesson is this: I messed up, I am very sorry, I accept full responsibility. (continued) "

" I came to check this forum specifically because I expected to see the usual...disparaging remarks about a person that posters do not know personally, vicious attacks by people hiding behind usernames, etc. With the exception of molerat, our jumping to conclusions/casting the first stone poster who love the anonymity, I am pleased to see others exercising restraint. (to be continued in next post) "

" I think 'molerat' should seek help for what is obviously a 'knee-jerk ass-umption' problem. "

" Do you know her personally? If not you should not be saying she is an alcholic. She admitted that she was wrong not only to the public but her students as well. That takes courage and shows she is not a liar and trying to cover it up. She seems like a better role model for our kids than many parents these days. Parents lie and drink and they spend more time with their kids than this teacher does. Give her a break. "

" And we won't hold Squarehead's lapse in judgement against him, either. "

The Squarehead wrote on Dec 21, 2007 8:25 AM:

" I wouldn't vote for her anyway because she's a Democrat, but this shouldn't be held against her. "

Dodger wrote on Dec 21, 2007 8:23 AM:

" A DWI indicates a serious lapse in judgement but it's not necessarily a tell tale sign of alcoholism, or even a drinking problem. It's at least somewhat refreshing that she's owning up to her mistake and taking full responsibility. "

Troller wrote on Dec 21, 2007 8:17 AM:

" Aw come on! If we kicked out every politician with a drinking problem you would be able to hear a pin drop while congress was in session. Where's Ted when you need him? "

molerat wrote on Dec 21, 2007 7:51 AM:

" She needs help before she could possibly think about running for public office again. Many questions need to be answered. She obviously has a drinking problem. Is she an alcholic? Will she seek help? Is there any other underlying problems that the public should know about? Is she a good role model for the children she teaches? How long has she been driving under the influence? "
