Jeanne Shaw
Isabelle “Jeanne” Shaw, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona, Minn.

Jeanne was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Jackson, Mich., to Charles W. and Elizabeth M. (Parmenter) Poole. On May 10, 1941, she married William W. Shaw in Minneapolis, and over their years of marriage, he always was Jeanne’s “Knight in Shining Armor.”

Jeanne graduated from North Central Bible College, Minneapolis, and she served with her husband, the Rev. William Shaw, in the Assembly of God Church in Nashua, Iowa; Knoxville, Iowa; Conrad, Iowa; Dawson, Minn.; and for 18 years in Winona. She also worked at Maxwell Library, at Winona State University.

She is survived by four children, the Rev. Phil (Faith) Shaw of Rochester, Minn., Miriam (William) Poppe of Winona, the Rev. Mark (Kathy) Shaw of La Crosse, Wis., and Dr. Timothy (Jeanne) Shaw of Shoreview, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Christina (Paul) Daniels, Luke Shaw, Kevin (Renee) Poppe, Daniel (Amaliya) Poppe, Gregory Shaw, Christopher Shaw, Erin Shaw, Billy Shaw and Ryan Shaw; two great-grandchildren, Will and Addison; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two brothers, Roger Poole and Russ, in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at Faith Assembly of God Church, 1717 West Broadway; Winona, with the Rev. Rick Drury, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church on Monday.

The casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Christina Daniels, Luke Shaw, Kevin Poppe, Daniel Poppe, Gregory Shaw, Christopher Shaw, Erin Shaw, Billy Shaw and Ryan Shaw.

Memorials may be directed to the Assemblies of God Hillcrest Childrens Home, 2325 Malvern Ave., P.O. Box 670, Hot Springs, AR 71901.

Eldora Karvel

WABASHA, Minn. — Eldora B. Karvel, 90, of Wabasha, died early Thursday morning, Sept. 20, 2007, at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home in Wabasha. She was born June 29, 1917, in Terry, Mont., the daughter of Samuel and Esther (Lewis Albert) McCown. The family moved to the Lewiston area when she was young. She is a descendant of Purdy Albert and Jonathan Smith Lewis, for whom the town of Lewiston is named.

She graduated from Lewiston High School, and then the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester in 1939. She worked as a nurse and later as an assistant nursing supervisor.

She married Raymond Karvel in 1940 in Winona. Together they owned and operated Karvel, Inc. and Karvel Insurance Company, she working as its secretary-treasurer. Karvel, Inc. developed the Baily subdivision in Rochester and the Hiawatha Valley Estate subdivision in Wabasha. The couple moved to Wabasha in 1975 where they owned and operated Karvel Antiques in Wabasha and Oronoco.

Eldora is survived by her husband, Raymond Karvel of Wabasha; sons, George Karvel of St. Cloud, Minn., John Karvel of St. Paul, Tom Karvel of Phoenix, Ariz., Andrew Karvel of Lansing, Iowa; four granddaughters, Rael Rodning of Le Sueur, Minn., and Ryan Tafro of Phoenix, Thomera Karvel of Monticello, Minn., Julia Karvel of St. Paul; four great-grandchildren, Bronte and Tristan Fuller and Kieran and Sumner Rodning of Le Sueur; one niece and one nephew. One brother, Luther McCown, preceded her in death.

Her body has been cremated. No services are planned at this time. The family prefers memorials to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Wabasha. Personal messages to the family may be sent to www.abbottfh.com.

Florence Jorgenson

BLAIR, Wis. — Florence Jorgenson, 97, of Blair, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, in the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the First Lutheran Church, with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery, both in Blair.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
