Mildred ‘Mickey’ Ann Mrachek
Aug. 13, 1913 — Sept. 8, 2007
YAKIMA, Wash. — Mildred “Mickey” Ann Mrachek, longtime Wapato, Wash., resident, died at the age of 94 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Yakima on Sept. 8, 2007.
Mickey was born Aug. 13, 1913, at Wason Flats, Mont., the daughter of Edward W. and Mabel Endresen Miller. She was raised and educated in Winona, graduating from Winona High School in 1932 and continued her education for two years at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.
She married John Mrachek on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 1935, at St. John’s Church in Winona. In 1948, the family moved to Wapato, Wash., and purchased a clothing store that they named “Johnny’s Clothing.” Mickey enjoyed working in the store with her husband, but she truly loved being a homemaker and a mother.
Mickey and Johnny retired November 1974 to Green Valley, Ariz., living there six months of every year. They enjoyed their retirement at Pueblo Estates, where she played bridge and quilted. Mickey and Johnny were married 63 years until Johnny passed away in 1999.
Mickey was a member of Tillicum Club of Wapato, Christian Women’s Fellowship, PEO Chapter P and many other organizations. She also volunteered at the Cancer Society’s Discovery House and was a Valley Mall walker until the age of 90. As a mall-walker, she earned her 1,000-mile key and made many very dear friends. Mickey enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting, especially baby quilts for everyone she knew. She made friends wherever she went and loved keeping in touch with relatives and friends by writing letters. Some of her correspondence lasted more than 50 years. Mickey was a member and a past deacon of Wapato Presbyterian Church. She loved the Lord, and her Bible was one of her most precious possessions after her daughter, Kay, and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine (Kay) Teresa Olsen of Wapato; grandchildren, Jean Klekotka, sons Alex and Max of Edmonds, Wash., Mark Olsen and wife Polly, sons Nate and Tucker of Seattle, Wash., John Olsen, children Amber of Seattle, John Jr. and Joshua of Moxee, Wash., and Joel Olsen of Wapato and his son A.J. of Richland, Wash.; and a great-great-grandson, Andre Edgerly, son of Amber; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother and son-in-law.
Special extended thanks go to the staff of Good Samaritan Health Care Center of Yakima for their compassionate care and to the many dear friends who gave their love and prayers during her short illness.
The family suggests memorials may be made in Mickey’s name to: Community Presbyterian Church, the Cancer Society’s Discovery House or the donor’s favorite charity, c/o Merritt Funeral Home, 218 W. 3rd St., Wapato, WA 98941.
