Mary Elaine Gifford

Mary E. Gifford, 80, of 3718 S. 15th St., Sheboygan, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at St. Nicholas Hospital.
She was born June 22, 1927, in Winona, the daughter of the late James and Anna (Rowekamp) Flanigan. Mary was a 1945 graduate of Lewiston (Minn.) High School and attended Winona Business College for two years. On April 17, 1948, she married Kenneth Gifford in Cochrane, Wis. Mary worked as a bookkeeper at J.L. French Co. in Sheboygan for 17 years before her retirement in 1986.
Mary was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls and the Sheboygan Christian Women’s Club. Mary was very proud of her Irish ancestry and her strong Christian faith. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and quilting; she generously shared her goodies with friends. Mary also did sewing, gardening, canning and freezing and loved square dancing. Mary had a very strong family focus; her personal reward was being with her husband and family. She was very intelligent, kind, loving and patient, and had a good sense of humor.
Mary’s survivors include her husband, Kenneth; one daughter, Mary (John) Rohan of Mundelein, Ill.; four sons, Bruce (Diana) Gifford of Pueblo West, Colo., Daniel (Denise) Gifford of Fond du Lac, Mark Gifford of Sheboygan and Timothy (Kathryn) Gifford of Waukesha; 11 grandchildren, Sean, Meaghan, Molly Rohan, Christopher (Alexis) Gifford, Shannon (Donald) Bradshaw, Jeffrey Gifford, Dana Gifford, Timothy Gifford Jr., Matthew, Sean Gifford, Catie Gifford; four great-grandchildren, Elliot Gifford, Lars Gifford, Wade Gifford and Katharine Bradshaw; two sisters, Margaret Flanigan of Minneapolis and Dorothy Sullivan of St. Paul; one brother, John (Frances) Flanigan of California; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Flanigan of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Flanigan Jr.; three sisters, Beatrice, Ruth and Anna Lucille Flanigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Parish, with the Rev. Robert Lotz, as celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in Winona.
Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls, today, Aug. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
A memorial fund will be established in her name for St. Mary School in Sheboygan Falls.

GALESVILLE, Wis. — Maynard Lebakken, 74, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at his home in Galesville.
He was born Sept. 13, 1932, in Galesville to Alvin and Myrtle (Moen) Lebakken.
Maynard was baptized and confirmed at French Creek Lutheran Church. He grew up on the family farm.
He married Alice Mahnke on June 5, 1954.
He farmed for his dad and worked for Gale Packing Co., Galesville. He and his family moved to Winona, where he worked for Marigold Dairies for 25 years. They then moved back on the farm where Maynard farmed and worked for the town of Gale for 26 years.
Maynard is survived by his wife, Alice; four children, Jean Rockwell (Steven), Fuquay Varina, N.C., David Lebakken (Karen Stellpflug), Eau Claire, Michael Lebakken, Galesville, and Beverly Monahan, Galesville; seven grandchildren, Chad Rockwell and Tina (Rockwell) Bates, Jonathan and Hannah Lebakken, Cody Monahan (fiancée Christine Gappa), Logan and Kaley Monahan; one great-grandchild, Caleb Bates; three sisters, Marlene Holm (Rev. Peter), Janice Miner (Marlin) and Joyce Lebakken; sister-in-law, Alberta Lebakken; aunt, Abbie Lebakken and uncle, Stanley Moen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Marie Lebakken; sister, LaVon Lebakken; brother, Ralph Lebakken; grandparents, Otto and Thea Lebakken and Sam and Matilda Moen; and other aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at French Creek Lutheran Church, rural Ettrick. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville Chapel, and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Gelene Polyard
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — Gelene E. “Julie” Polyard, 75, of Lake Havasu City died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
She was born Sept.15, 1931, in Litchfield, Minn.
She married Louis Polyard; they had two sons.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha, Minn.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Frediette E. McKinley, 97, of Winona died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at Lake Winona Manor, Winona.

WHITEHALL, Wis. — Gaylord C. Metzler, 57, of Whitehall, Wis., and formerly of Arcadia, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at his home.
