WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- A Rochester doctor says he's running as a Republican for the U.S. House seat held by first-term Democrat Tim Walz.
Brian Davis is a radiation oncologist at the Mayo Clinic, treating cancer patients.
Davis says with health care a major issue facing lawmakers, Congress needs more physicians who are familiar with the health care industry.
He says his dual background -- as both a physician and an engineer in the energy industry -- makes him the best candidate for the job.
Davis is traveling the length of the First Congressional District in southern Minnesota this week as he launches his campaign.
The Republican field includes former state Senate Minority Leader Dick Day of Owatonna (oh-wuh-TAHN'-uh), state Representative Randy Demmer of Hayfield and Mark Meyer, a school board member from Lake Crystal.
