Drazkowski takes 28B in special election

With all but two precincts reporting, Republican Steve Drazkowski appears to be the winner in the race to fill the Dist. 28B Minnesota House seat vacated by Steve Sviggum.

At 10 p.m. Tuesday, Drazkowski led DFL challenger Linda Pfeilsticker with 52.8 percent of the votes.

Turnout was just over 30 percent in the special election called by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

Sviggum, a Republican from Kenyon, stepped down this summer after 29 years representing the district to become the state’s commissioner of labor and industry. He was the speaker of the House for eight of those years.

Dist. 28B includes much of Winona County, including Goodview, Lewiston and St. Charles, as well as parts of Wabasha and Goodhue counties.
