The Winhawks won 4-3 over Lakeville South and lost 1-0 to Rochester Century in the 1AAA section playoffs.
Speltz pitched all 13 innings for WSHS and threw a no-hitter in the loss to Century (18-3).
Century, the No. 1 seed to the Winhawks No. 16 seed, manufactured a run against Speltz in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Panthers drew a walk, stole second, sacrificed the baserunner to third on a ground ball and scored the runner on a sacrifice fly from Andy Knutson.
Speltz struck out seven and walked four in the no-hitter.
“For Ryan to throw such a great game after he pitched the first game,” Winhawks coach Matt Smith said, “we’re real proud of him.”
WSHS had seven hits in the loss. Zach Woodard had a double.
Speltz struck out 10, allowed three hits and walked two to pick up the win over Lakeville South.
“His arm was nice and loose,” Smith said. “He’s a strong kid.”
Speltz also went 2-for-3 with a double.
WSHS junior Jeff Walters went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
WSHS (5-15) will face Waseca at 10 a.m. today at Mayo Field in Rochester in an elimination game.

AUSTIN, Minn. — The Winhawks had an up and down day in their first action in the 1AAA playoffs.
WSHS (10-11) will take on Faribault at 3 p.m. today in Austin in an elimination game.
They resumed play Friday down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth against Northfield after a rain suspension.
It didn’t take long for Hannah Norman to settle into a groove. The sophomore infielder sent a two-run home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth to put the Winhawks up for good.
Norman went 2-for-3 with the go-ahead home run and a double.
WSHS senior Karissa Jensen struck out nine, allowed four hits and walked two in a complete game effort to pick up the win.
The Winhawks ran up against the defending state champs in their second game.
WSHS committed a season-high 10 errors in the blowout defeat after playing error free in the opening round win.
Mallory Morken was 1-for-2 with a double to lead the Winhawks.
Boys track and field
WSHS second at Big Nine
FARIBAULT, Minn. — Elliott Heath won two events to help lead the Winhawks to a second-place finish at the Big Nine Conference championships.
It was the best finish for WSHS since it won the event in 1988. The Winhawks scored 202 points; Rochester Century won with 239.
Heath won the 800 meters in 2:00.34 and the 1,600 in 4:12.58.
Jon-Michael Brandt was second in the 3,200 (9:57.26) and was followed by teammates Mitch Weegman 9:58.14.
Andy Norman finished second in the discus with a throw of 174 feet, 2 inches. Owatonna’s Mike Shaver won at 183-1.
Norman also was sixth in the shot put (48-1½) and Tom Sawyer was fourth (49-3¼).
Girls track and field
WSHS third at Big Nine
FARIBAULT, Minn. — Shari Lehnertz won the discus with a throw of 130 feet, four inches and placed third in the shot put, earning all-conference as the Winhawks placed third in the Big Nine Conference championships.
WSHS scored 171 points behind Owatonna (269) and Mankato East (231). It was the best finish for the Winhawks since winning the event in 2000.
Michelle Potter earned all-conference also as she placed second in the discus (129-4) and shot put (36-9½).
Kayla Ewert placed third in the 800-meters (2:21.34).
Boys tennis
Section 1A Individual Meet
FARIBAULT, Minn. — No. 3 seed David Leaf won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 for Cotter.
In doubles play, Justin Loeffler and Ross Heymans swept at No. 1 6-0, 6-0 and Mike Eddy and Mike Johnson won 6-2, 6-1.
All winners advance to the semifinals on Tuesday for the Ramblers.
