Anne Marie Schulze
Jan. 8, 1927 — Feb. 25, 2007

BROWNSVILLE, Minn. — Anne Marie Schulze, 80, of Brownsville passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, in her home. She was born Jan. 8, 1927, in Caledonia to Frederick and Susan (Malay) Buttell. She married Luman Esch on June 9, 1947, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Caledonia. Luman died Sept.17, 1977. She married Leland Schulze on Dec. 12, 1986, in Mankato, Minn.

Anne was a homemaker and worked at the Houston County Court House and Hector Construction, Caledonia. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brownsville, and St. Jude Circle. She enjoyed traveling, reading, baseball, bird watching, fishing and shopping. She also enjoyed taking care of her husband and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Anne is survived by her husband, Leland ‘Gunny’ Schulze of Brownsville; three daughters, Susan (Jerry) Scanlan of Goodhue, Minn., Cathy Foellmi of Brownsville, Judy (Joe) Macejik of Brownsville; two sons, Terry (Diana) Esch of Amarillo, Texas, Frederick (Linda) Esch of Roberts, Wis.; two stepsons, Allen (Donna) Schulze of Caledonia and Michael (Ellen) Schulze of Ottertail County, Minn.; and a stepdaughter, Debra Houdek of Caledonia; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Tom) Faerber, Kathy (Dave) Clausen; two brothers, Bob (Marge) Buttell and Pat (Audrey) Buttell; and three sisters-in-law, Marlys (Harold) Thompson, Sister Mary Catherine Esch, and Erma Burroughs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard; and a sister, Margaret.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brownsville. Father Gregory Leif will officiate, and entombment will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, La Crosse, Wis.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Breza Hall, adjacent to St. Patrick’s Church, 604 Adams St., Brownsville, with a prayer service to be said at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the hall on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Patrick’s Church or to the donor’s favorite charity.

McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.

Michael J. Ferguson

July 19, 1954 — Feb. 23, 2007

LONSDALE, Minn. — Michael J. Ferguson, 52, of Lonsdale died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007.

Michael James Ferguson was born July 19, 1954, in Charleston, S.C., the son of William and Eugenia Ferguson. He then graduated from Adams Friendship High School, Adams, Wis.; Wisconsin School of Electronics, Madison, Wis.; and Winona Area Technical Institute, Winona.

Michael married Deborah Hermann May 14, 1977, in Winona. They made Lonsdale their home in 1979. He was employed with Verizon Wireless. Michael was actively involved with LES (SKYWARN) and volunteering in the community. NODGG enjoyed talking with his ham radio friends. In 1979, he received his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying, he was also passionate about all aspects of aviation. Michael was always experimenting with new and emerging technologies. He was an avid Packers and Twins fan. His life revolved around caring for his family and friends.

Arthur H. 'Art' Rivers

April 27, 1925 — Feb. 21, 2007

Arthur H. “Art” Rivers, 81, of Vandalia passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, while visiting in Cape Coral, Fla. Mr. Rivers was born in Rollingstone, Minn., April 27, 1925, to Edward Sr. and Johanna (Johns) Rivers.

Art was the former owner of Riverdale Ice and Beer Co. on N. Main St., Dayton, for over 40 years. He was a founding member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, in Vandalia, where he actively served his parish as an usher. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II; former member of the Riverdale Optimist Club and American Legion Post 668 in Vandalia.

He was preceded in death by his son, James; sisters, Alvira Wissel and Sr. M. Johanna; brothers, Edward, Bernard, Wilford, Norbert and Francis.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Martha (Cox) Rivers; daughter, Deborah McCauley (Brent); grandchildren, Nichelle, Christopher and Alex; brother, Paul Rivers of Winona; host of other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. today, Feb. 27, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 E. National Road, Vandalia. Father Frank Keferl, celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.

If desired, memorials may be made to Catholic Social Services of Miami Valley, 922 W. Riverview Ave., Dayton, OH 45407.

Thomas Rudolph deGrood

Thomas Rudolph deGrood, died Feb. 25, 2007, in Gibraltar, Mich. He was born Jan. 18, 1928.

Verna E. Peterson

Verna E. Peterson, 89, of Harmony, Minn., formerly of Mabel, Minn., died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa. Burial will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel, with the Rev. Curtis Fox officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.

Alvin Dorn

LEWISTON, Minn. — Alvin Dorn, 98, of Lewiston died on Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at the Lewiston Villa in Lewiston.

Hoff Funeral Homes — Lewiston Chapel is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

He was preceded in death by parents, William and Eugenia. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; son, Anthony (Christa) Ferguson; daughter, Cheyenne (Jordan) Deters; grandsons, Parker, Lucas, Ethan and Marcus; sisters, Ruth (Cliff) Preston, Kathleen Kelly (William) Murphy, Patricia (Charles) Buchmiller and Mary (Jack) Berry; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lonsdale. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the White Funeral Home, Lonsdale, and also one hour prior to Mass at the funeral home. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Lonsdale.
