On Nov. 28, the American Association of University Women celebrated its 125th anniversary, making it one of the oldest women’s organizations in the country. Throughout its history, AAUW has shaped the social, political and economic scene for women, including winning women’s right to vote; fighting to close the wage gap between men and women; and passing landmark legislation that has changed women’s lives, such as Title IX and the Family and Medical Leave Act. After 125 years, AAUW continues to promote equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. Winona has its own local AAUW branch, which meets on the second Saturday of each month September until May. Won’t you consider joining the 80-plus other women in the Winona community to continue the legacy of equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change.
