Arne Fliginger, 45, of Wyoming, Minn., died of blunt force injuries, the medical examiner said. His 22-year-old son, an ironworker who was also at the site, witnessed the fall.
The accident is being investigated by Minnesota OSHA, and could be completed within a month, according to a news release.
Police said Fliginger apparently lost his balance on a platform between the tower and the crane, but it wasn't clear whether there was an equipment malfunction.
Fliginger worked for Northwest Tower Cranes and was working at the site of The Carlyle condominiums.
It was the second time a worker has fallen to his death while working on the project. A 36-year-old Plymouth man died after falling at least four floors at the site in September 2005.
