" What does the Wilke have to do with St. Mary's losing a building on their campus? "

" Now if all the money that might be raised to repair "The Boat That Can't Float" were used to reduce taxes in this town it would be worth the effort. All the money raised for these go nowhere projects just gives somebody a few hour work. After that just a lot of head aches. All the money spent on gas just to get to all these meetings could reduce taxes a lot. "

" I can remember visiting the Wilke as a child and being totally "awed" at the spectacularity of the boat... "How could such a big wooden and steel structure like this float?" I hope everyone does whatever they can to preserve this awesome piece of Winona Riverfront history. Is there any talk of moving the Wilke to the new riverfront museum where the tugboat will eventually end up? I think it would be a great addition to the museum. "

" As a student at Saint Mary's I am saddened to see this building destroyed in this fire. Not only was it a historic part of this campus but was a way for students to remember how far Saint Mary's has come. It will be a missed building on campus. "

" That building needed to go, it was there for a very long time taking up space that could be used for more useful buildings. Sad to see it go, but its better then demolishing it. "

" SINK THE WIlkie
Todays younger people don't want to preserve the past. All they want is change. There are a few people that think you have to preserve the past. They hoot and howl and act like the Pied Piper Of Hamlein. The trouble is they drum up enough money to start something but just can't can't keep it going. They seem to control a lot of what happens here in Winona but this is just a plain lost cause.
