Published - Monday, June 12, 2006 Fire destroys Cotter Hall An early morning fire destroyed Cotter Hall on the campus of Saint Mary's University Monday. The call came in shortly before 2 a.m., and as many as 35 firefighters from Winona Fire and Rescue responded. By the time firefighters arrived on scene, the south part of the three-story, red-brick building was engulfed in flames. Fire crews spent three hours knocking down the blaze which spread throughout most of the building. No one was injured in the blaze. Winona Fire Chief Ed Krall said the building had been used for storage for the past couple of years. The cause of the fire was not known and the damage is believed to be total. The state fire marshal has been called into investigate the fire which is considered suspicious by fire department officials. Fire crews are expected to be at the scene all day monitoring hot spots.
