$11.5 million included for Winona State

.
A borrowing bill passed Wednesday by the Minnesota House of Representatives includes about $11.5 million for Winona State University projects, as well as money for Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical.

WSU would get a little more than $11.1 million to renovate Maxwell Hall and another $400,000 to study renovating Memorial Hall. The bill includes $5.1 million for renovation of science labs to be divided among 10 community and technical schools, including Southeast Technical.
Southeast Tech stands to get between $2 million and $3 million, said Rep. Gene Pelowski.

All three projects also were included in the Senate’s version of the bill, passed last month.

“This is about the closest I’ve seen the House and Senate,” Pelowski said. “It really bodes well for our local projects.”

Not included in the House bill were requests for $500,000 for an addition to the Houston County Historical Society and $250,000 to study a permanent home for the Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona, both of which are in the Senate’s bill. It will be up to the two chambers to agree on a compromise bill. Gov. Tim Pawlenty also will have the opportunity to veto individual projects. Pawlenty has expressed his support for the Maxwell Hall project.
