Moon dust proves it

By Roger A. Schmidt | Fountain City, Wis.

In recent days we have noticed a bashing of any alternatives to evolution. I wish to start this letter with an experience I had.

In July of 1969 I had the honor to work in the Apollo Space Craft area at Collins Radio at Cedar Rapids, lowa. It was a restricted area and only the personnel who were associated with the program were allowed in the room. Collins supplied us with material such as books, magazines, etc.

Just a day or so before the landing of the Eagle, a group of us were having an intense discussion on the safety of the mission. According to the data supplied to NASA, it was believed that after the accumulation of six billion years, the dust on the moon could be as deep as 12 feet. Most of us were in 4 to 6 feet area. Except one man named Carl. Carl was a lower labor grade and relegated to more menial jobs. Anyway, he stated that there couldn’t be more than a couple inches. After the group recovered from such a stupid statement, the lead tech asked him where he came up with such an asinine idea. Carl said, Because the Bible states that the world is less than 10,000 years old. After a long silence, the lead tech said, “You know, Carl, someday we really have to stop in and visit your world.”

I watched the astronauts as they romped around on the moon. I was dumfounded, besides myself, and speechless to see the footprints. About two inches! That incident caused me to investigate evolution with an open mind. The more I studied it, the more convinced that the Grimm brothers had a hand in formulating it.

What really blows my mind is when people you really look up as being intelligent re- (Daily News) print a cartoon that insinuates that teaching anything but evolution would kill science. That is absolute rubbish. I think that the evolution community is afraid that if people hold their theory up to the light, they might come to the same conclusion I did.

Winona is fine just the way it is

By Scotty Ryan | Winona

On Nov. 14, the Winona city planning commission approved a recommendation to the city council to put a

30 percent cap on rental housing per block in Winona. They say that this is not a direct shot at college students, but to be honest it is.

In this 30 percent cap, however, there are a lot of holes. One is it will never take place. This cap has a grandfather clause so why are we going to pass this? There is no reason for this cap. Anyone you ask basically says it’s to make Winona better. Everything in Winona is just fine the way it is. I know because not only am I a WSU student but also a lifelong resident of Winona.

This is a college town. The area around WSU is of course going to have a lot of college students living there, let that be. The college students mean this town no harm. I have heard that this cap will help spread the students around Winona. Well isn’t that great? So now instead of just the area around WSU being university living, the whole town is.

For those of you who believe that the college kids are just a bunch of drunks and all we do is drink and party and think that’s why Winona is losing a family feel, you’re flat out wrong. That’s not what we are and to categorize us as that is simply unjust and wrong. But if you do feel that way, that around campus is looking terrible because of college students, why in the world would you want to spread us out around town — that seems like a good fix ... or not.

This cap is not going to work so please tell your city council members what a bad idea it is and remember yes we are college students and we can do good for this community.

Thank God

By James Carlson | Winona

Thank God for college students.

Why not concentrate your efforts on examining the negative votes in Dakota, W-K, Jefferson and Rollingstone poll sites.

Who are these voters who do not support our public school system?

... And why?
