Newspapers in Education (NIE) is a cooperative program between schools and their local newspaper to promote reading as a lifetime habit and to encourage informed citizens. The program is international in scope and is more than 50 years old in the United States.

The NIE program helps motivate and teach students with a textbook as fresh as each day's news. Students at
various grade levels can find something of interest in a newspaper to read and to motivate them to learn more. Using news stories, editorials, sports features, comics, ads, or photos, students and teachers can integrate the dailynewspaper with subjects they study each day. Language arts, social studies, math, science — you will find it in the newspaper — a very up-to-date textbook.
